The National Congress of Papaye Peasant Movement (MPNKP) has more than 100,000 members, making it the largest and most broad-based national peasant organization in Haiti. The MPNKP is a confederation of grassroots groups, providing technical assistance, training and a platform for policy work as peasants strive to maintain a sustainable economy and participatory democracy.

One of their principal projects is the reintroduction of the Creole pig. Once the Haitian peasant's most important economic asset, the Creole pig was eradicated under US pressure when swine fever hit the Caribbean. The MPNKP is now reintroducing this livestock asset into Haitian rural communities, and training workers to provide veterinary care.

Grassroots has produced a moving documentary on the story of the Creole pig and supports the repopulation efforts.
